Training Program on Water & Sanitation Services Concludes Successfully in Lahore

The Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON), UNICEF, and WASA Lahore jointly organized the second session of a specialized training program aimed at improving water and sanitation services. The session was held in Lahore and attended by officers from 11 Municipal Committees, including Municipal Officers and Chief Officers. With this session, the capacity-building program for 20 Municipal Committees under the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program and Punjab Cities Program has been successfully completed.

Participants included representatives from Ahmedpur East, Chakwal, Khanpur, Jampur, Rajanpur, Jatoi, Pakpattan, Sadiqabad, Gojra, Wazirabad, and Kamalia, while nine Municipal Committees had completed their training during the first session.

The program’s Chief Guest, Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Punjab, Bilal Yasin, awarded certificates to the trainees and praised this significant effort to strengthen the capacity of local government officials.

Director General WASA Punjab Tayyab Farid and Managing Director WASA Lahore Ghufran Ahmad also attended the event, highlighting WASA Lahore’s modern reforms and ongoing initiatives to enhance water and sanitation service delivery.

PWON Holds Annual Meeting in Multan with Participation of WASAs and WSSCs Leadership

The PWON Annual Meeting was held on 21st November at Ramada Hotel, Multan with the support of UNICEF Pakistan, and was chaired by Chairman PWON, Syed Zahid Aziz. The gathering brought together all Managing Directors of Punjab WASAs, including newly established entities, along with CEOs of KPK WSSCs and the MD of WASA Quetta.

Leaders from across the country exchanged experiences, innovative approaches, and best practices aimed at improving water supply and sewerage services. Participants acknowledged PWON’s role in convening a productive platform that strengthened sector-wide collaboration and dialogue.

Chairman PWON Showcases Innovations at 6th GWOPs Congress, Germany

Syed Zahid Aziz, Chairman PWON and MD PMDFC, spoke at the 6th GWOPs Congress in Bonn, Germany, highlighting capacity building, digital transformation, and collaborative governance for urban water and sanitation challenges. He showcased PWON and PMDFC’s innovative projects, including floating wetlands, underground water storage, and wastewater treatment plants, and discussed partnerships with international agencies like UNICEF, GIZ, and the World Bank.

He also held bilateral talks with global water organizations to explore future collaboration, technical exchange, and investment opportunities in Pakistan’s municipal water sector.

WatSan Training Held for Municipal Officers in Collaboration with PMDFC, PWON & UNICEF

PMDFC, in partnership with PWON, UNICEF, and WASA Lahore, organized a specialized WatSan training on November 15, 2025, for Municipal Officers from nine partner Municipal Committees under PCP and PICP. Senior officials from PMDFC and WASA briefed participants on ongoing reforms, digital systems, infrastructure upgrades, and improved service delivery practices.

The delegation also visited WASA Gulberg and the WASA Training Center to observe water supply operations, sewerage management, customer service processes, and capacity-building facilities. Participants appreciated WASA Lahore’s modern reforms and expressed commitment to applying these learnings in their respective cities.

A two-day workshop, held on 23–24 June 2025 in Islamabad with support from AGAHE Foundation, brought together leaders from PWON member utilities. The event focused on strengthening collaboration, promoting systems thinking, and enhancing peer-to-peer learning to advance sustainable WASH services across Pakistan.

PWON Chairman Speaks at World Bank Conference on Pakistan’s WASH Sector

At the World Bank Conference in Islamabad, PWON Chairman Syed Zahid Aziz joined global partners including UNICEF, JICA, WHO, IWA, and GWOPA/UN-Habitat as an elite panelist. He highlighted regional disparities in drinking water access, outlined reforms in Punjab such as underground reservoirs and floating wetlands, and emphasized sustainable strategies for water conservation and resource protection.

PWON Chairman Joins CDA Water Conference in Islamabad

PWON Chairman Syed Zahid Aziz participated in a high-level CDA water conference alongside international partners including World Bank, JICA, UNICEF, ADB, AFD, UN-Habitat, and others. The event focused on transforming Islamabad Water into the country’s most advanced utility, with strong commitments for collaboration and new partnerships in Pakistan’s water sector.
